Animal rights

Display #
1 Dr. Steve Best
The personal site of our favourite animal rights activist Dr. Steve Best, a passionate and gifted writer and speaker who doesn't make arbitrary divisions between animal rights, social justice and environmental issues.
2 Vivisection Absurd
There is enough data and logical argument on this website to convince anyone alive that vivisection is just plain stupid.

Thousands and thousands of pages of information!
3 The Institute for Critical Animal Studies
From their website: "The aim of the Institute for Critical Animal Studies (ICAS) is to provide a space for the development of a “critical” approach to animal studies, one which perceives that relations between human and nonhuman animals are now at a point of crisis which implicates the planet as a whole."
4 Gary Francione's Abolitionist Approach
If you can ignore the constant appeals for legal reform (as opposed to genuinely radical action), Francione makes some pretty good points about animal rights from an abolitionist perspective.
5 Animal Rights library
Just what it says on the box - an online repository of writings on animal rights. Highly recommended for those of you interested in ethical philosophy, etc.
6 The ALF news site
The #1 place to go for updates about ALF actions.
7 The Animal Rights FAQ
The most complete set of questions and answers online.
8 Between the species
Between the Species is an electronic journal devoted to the philosophical examination of the relationship between human beings and other animals. While most articles are ethical inquiries, others raise issues involving metaphysics, epistemology and other areas of philosophical investigation.
9 Animal Person
Mary Martin, Ph.D., deconstructs the language, ethics and economics of our relationship with nonhuman animals.
10 Beauty without Cruelty
Beauty Without Cruelty works, to protect all animals within South Africa, and to have animals recognized as sentient beings with legal rights.
11 How to win debates with vivisectors (by Dr. Vernon Coleman)
Dr. Vernon Coleman is recognised as one of the world authorities on the absurdities of vivisection. While his whole site is worth a visit, this particular article is invaluable for those of you involved in debates with those who think animal experimentation is sound science.
12 An AR Zone guest chat with Prof. David Niber
David Niber connects animal rights theory with other economic and sociological theories, and believes that speciesism is an ideology that seeks to legitimise animal slavery, defending the discrimination against sentient beings based on their species. David promotes veganism and abolitionism.
13 Speciesism and capitalism
Using themes from Professor David Nibert's "entanglements thesis," should we understand speciesism as rather more than simply a prejudice held by indviduals? To what extent is capitalism a major structural impediment to the liberation of all human and other animals? Can we see a vegan capitalist future - or do we have to become anti-capitalists to be animal liberationists?
